Planning a Safe Return
to the Classroom

The safety of faculty and students during in-person classroom instruction continues to be a top priority at Northeastern. Looking ahead to the Spring 2021 semester, faculty can leverage a variety of university resources to prepare for a safe and engaging experience for all.

Prepare for the Classroom Checklist

As you return to teach in the classroom, prepare by following these steps to ensure a safe and seamless teaching and learning experience for all.

Before Semester Start

Get Familiar with the Classroom

Find the classroom that you are scheduled to teach in and understand its features. Review the quick guide and other available resources.

Get Training

Get up to speed with pedagogical best practices and academic and classroom technology skills for teaching a Hybrid NUflex course.

Create a Zoom link through Canvas

Creating a Zoom link is necessary to allow students at a distance to join class sessions. Learn how to create a Zoom link and publish it as part of your Canvas course.

Get Tested for COVID-19

Ensure compliance with all university testing and quarantine protocols. To keep safety front and center for the entire university community, only teach in person when you have met the requirements fully.

Anticipate Attendance via the Dynamic Scheduler

Review how many students are assigned to attend class in person versus remotely each week. Plan safety protocols and activities accordingly.

Follow Safety Policies and Protocols

Complete daily wellness checks, wear a mask, and use the sanitization supplies in the classrooms.

Come Prepared

Carry your own personal items to and from class, including markers, dusters, and headsets. Request a Lav mic if you believe your voice needs amplification for students in the classroom.

Protect the Pack

Remind students about the safety protocols and hold them accountable to do their part to help keep the community safe and healthy.
